Loler testing checklists can be used by site managers or area supervisors to help assess the condition of equipment and ensure that it meets safety regulations. Using a checklist will allow you to identify potential issues and act on them promptly, which reduces the risk of equipment failure and improves productivity. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of employers and owners of lifting equipment to ensure that LOLER and PUWER (Prevention of Unauthorised Worker) are enforced in their workplace.

Comprehensive LOLER Testing for Elevators

LOLer testing is required by law for all lifting equipment and accessories that are used to support or lift loads. This includes cranes, forklifts, hoists and all other equipment that is designed to be used to move or support heavy and large loads.

All LOLER testing must be carried out by what is known as a ‘competent person’, which is someone who has the right qualifications and experience for this type of work. Thorough examinations must be undertaken at regular intervals and records of each must be kept.

During a thorough examination, the competent person must check that the equipment is suitable for its intended use, safe to use and marked appropriately with its safe working load. It must also be strong and stable enough for its purpose, and it must be positioned and installed to minimise risks. The competent person must also consider the environment where it will be used and whether it is likely to be subjected to any unusual conditions, such as working close to a railway line.
